iShares Cup TV Coming to a Screen Near You Soon!
04 June 2009Programme 1 of the 6-part iShares Cup TV series will be broadcast on a screen near you very soon! In fact, starting in France tomorrow (5th June), Sport+ will broadcast the first programme at 16h30 and Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland will broadcast programme 1 starting 8th June with their first transmission at 1800hrs. 24 international networks have so far confirmed transmission of the 6-part series covering more than 130 countries. Gitana Extreme - Groupe LCF Rothschild wins the first 2009 iShares Cup event!
17 May 2009"It's a great feeling to win here, I guess we were coming knowing we were somewhere in the top five, but winning the first event is fantastic! We concentrated on our starts, communication within the team was excellent and we did not lose our focus. There is a lot of pressure on the helmsmen as the boats are very close, and it's very demanding physically for the crew but we were working perfectly together. ...
Changes in hierarchy... but the "bosses" make it clear who they are!
16 May 2009The Committee had to postpone the first start but the wind eventually kicked in, and BMW ORACLE Racing won the first race of the day just like they had done yesterday. Quite clearly, the American team, Gitana Extreme - Groupe LCF Rothschild, Renaissance and Masirah seemed to dominate and the mark roundings proved red hot, with a few contacts and subsequent penalties. Yann Guichard's crew impressed with their speed, while Pete Cumming went on to win two races in a row... with Gitana Extreme - Groupe LCF Rothschild in his wake! Loïck Peyron had mixed fortunes and a few imperfect starts, but showed a great ability to get back in the game - unfortunately, the crew's 5th man had a taste of Venetian waters and had to be picked up by a safety rib! The "man overboard" seemed to have enjoyed his experience, coming ashore dripping but with a big smile on his face. Peyron went on to win race 10, with BMW ORACLE in his wake and Holmatro posting a second third place of the day....
Heavyweights stay close in light airs
15 May 2009Despite challenging conditions at the opening round of the iShares Cup Venice, the 10 Extreme 40s put away five races this afternoon, before the breeze died. The race course is set along the Riva dei Setti, within striking distance of St Mark's Square, and the 40-ft catamarans were tacking and gybing within meters of the wall. ...

14 May 2009The three practice races that took place today in Venice confirmed what everyone predicted: the level of competition of the 2009 iShares Cup is very high! Gitana Extreme - Groupe LCF Rothschild, Groupama and Oman Sail's Masirah each came ashore with a victory, the final race of the day having been particularly close-fought and spectacular with its central Venice finish line. ...
